Petite Poinsettia Ornament by Inge Glas
In tiny villages throughout Mexico, it was customary to bring gifts to the Christ Child on Christmas Eve. One poor young child had no gift to give. She prayed and hoped that she would find a suitable gift for the King. Sadly, with a tear in her eye, she knelt by the roadside, picked several weeds and twisted them into a small bouquet as she made her way to the church. In quiet despair, she prayed that her humble gift would be acceptable in His eyes. As she lay the bouquet down, she felt her spirits lift. Within a blink of her eyes, her small weeds burst into glorious red blooms. The entire church witnessed an amazing Christmas miracle. The flower became known as the “Flower of the Holy Night for it bloomed only during the Christmas season. Today the flower is called poinsettia after Dr. Joel Robert Poinsett, an American Ambassador to Mexico who introduced it to the United States during the 1800’s.

Mouth blown and hand painted by Inge Glas in Neustadt by Coburg, this ornament is approximately 3" tall.
