Long ago when the tides first began to ebb and wane,

there lived a great beast who the people named Long Gang.

At first sight of him people were scared with thoughts of pain,

but soon hope, pride, and love for the dragon sprang,

for his loyalty was time and time again proven and proclaimed.

He was a long tailed dragon with icy eyes and dagger fangs,

who guarded the peaceful kingdom whenever the town’s bells rang.

Every time the people called for protection or felt a tinge of fear,

Long Gang appeared to thwart off all no do-gooders who were near.

Afterwards the kingdom would always join as one in song,

heralding their protector Long Gang until the next morning’s rising sun.

One day from the mountains they heard a boom, bam, bing,

they called for Long Gang but he did not come.

The sounds boomeranged off the mountain rims until the day was done.

Now at night on the eave of every house a lantern overhangs,

as remembrance of the last time the great dragon was seen.

The people still wonder what befell him or how he went astray,

and hope their Long Gang will find his way home again one day.
